Car Travel Essentials for your dog

I absolutely LOVE everything about travelling in the car, so for me this is a supaw fun part of my travel days.

But for some pups this may not be the case. If so, I’d recommend testing out short trips to get your fur baby used to car travel and you may also wish to seek some pawfessional advice to assist.

Car travel really is such an easy way of bringing your pet with you on holidays, no matter what breed or size!

Fun Fact: On our big lap of Australia I travelled in the car for over 50,000 kilometres!!

The below is a list of my car travel essentials:

  • Seat belt to keep your fur baby restrained and safe at all times (the one we use clips onto the back of my harness and then into the seatbelt clip on the car.

  • Comfy travel bed or booster seat for snoozing (I presonally prefer to use a bed)

  • Ensure you stop for regular toilet and exercise breaks

  • Keep the car well ventilated to avoid travel sickness and ensure flow of fresh/ cool air can reach your fur baby

  • Water – I love being hand-fed from my travel sippy cup and it prevents spills too

  • A favourite toy or snuggle blankie for comfort

  • Snackos

  • Sunnies and some good tunes 😉

  • Pawrents must always alert me when something interesting is coming up so I can pop my head out the window for a look, ie: Moo cows, river crossings, McDonalds

  • Remember, safety first. NEVER leave your dog unattened in a car, even for a few minutes.

Hot tip: A car seat cover is a great idea to protect your car seats from doggy hair, dirt, scratches and sand

Pro tip: We had our car set up with a water tank also. This enables us to carry extra drinking water and as we have a shower attachment we can hose off any dirty paws before getting back in the car :)

Safe Travels
