We absolutely loved travelling through South Australia, and particular highlights for us were the Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas. This is such a stunning part of the country and good news is these peninsulas are both supaw dog friendly. I was always welcome to run free on the beautiful beaches and there were a few hidden attractions that also welcomed me!

The Yorke Peninsula is only around a 2 hour drive from Adelaide and is the pawfect getaway for those humans and doggos that love the beach and enjoy hanging out in sleepy quiet little towns.

Our favourite camps on this peninsula were:

  • Cape Elizabeth - This is a free secluded beach camp, but be warned the road in is a little bit sketchy but that made for a fun ride! It's only suitable for small off-road caravans, camper trailers and 4x4's. I swam in the crystal clear water, played rolly-pollies in the sand and chased fishies all day long.

  • Point Turton Caravan Park - We scored a beautiful grassy site overlooking the water and I landed lots of squid with daddy off the pier. There are also huge stingrays that came up to say a friendly hello to us when we were swimming.

  • Wauraltee Beach Camp -The most stunning crystal clear water and huge spacious white sand beaches that you can play on all day. Tip: there is not much shade but you can drive your car on the beach so we put our awning out to get a rest from the rays and mummy put my doggo sunscreen on my little ears.

  • Hancocks Lookout - This free bush camp has the most spectacular 360 degree views over the gulf and ranges. At night we all sat up on the roof of our car together to stargaze and watch a huge lightning storm roll in, it was beautiful!

Best time to visit:

It's best to visit this area in the warm summer months between December- February so you can really enjoy all it's beautiful beaches have to offer.

Where to eat:

The Tavern on Turton pub was fab and dog friendly too (I loved the chippies!)

Fishing with Daddy

Final thoughts:

The Yorke Peninsula is a beach lovers dream. It is fairly quiet and has a nice isolated feel, making it the pawfect place for you and your fur baby to a getaway from the busy city vibes. It can get a little windy at times so if we had our time over again we would have purchased our side and front awnings for the caravan sooner to protect my little eyes and face a bit better from being sandblasted around the beach camps.

Happy camping
