Parts of Australia sure can get supaw hot, and being a brachy breed I need to be extra careful when it comes to heat stroke.

However, some of the most beautiful places we have ever visited were in the northern parts of the country where the climate is a lot warmer.

So we used the following techniques to help keep cool:

  • Swimming at the beach or river (if safe to do so) to cool off

  • A big bucket of water to splash around the campsite in - we have a big collapsable bucket that folds down flat after use

  • Eating frozen treats such as watermelon or icy-broth-pops (recipe below)

  • Sitting in the caravan airconditioning -if you have this luxury

  • Wear a soaking wet rashie for extra cooling

  • Walkies at cooler times of the day (very early morning is best)

  • Lots of shade and fresh water

  • Cooling mat

Recipe: Icy-Broth-Pops

I love having these on a hot day. They are an easy, super healthy and tasty treat and also help to cool me down.

Ingredients:

  • Chicken breast

  • Water

Recipe:

  • Boil/ poach the chicken breast in water on your stove top or cooker

  • Once the chicken is cooked through, remove the chicken and put aside for the humans to make something yummo with it (my humans like to shred the chicken and use as a pizza topper or in salads)

  • Allow the broth water to cool slightly and then pour into ice cube trays.

  • Pop in the freezer

  • When your hot and need a snack, pull a few cubes out of the freezer and enjoy a delicious frozen chicken flavoured icy-pop snacko!

Hot tip: We also love freezing watermelon cubes for another icy-treat

Pro tip: If your camping and have tinned tuna in springwater you could also freeze the tuna water in an ice cube tray for a fishy-flavoured frozen treato.

Keep cool!
